Not sure if they still offer this, but back in the day, they were giving out sign on bonuses in the thousands for certain jobs and the nuclear sub bonus was kick ass huge....LOL. I give props to all that can endure jobs like that, like you, sorry not sorry but its not for me. I met a lot airmen while stationed in Oahu and a huge lot was out of Texas....LOL

Back in the day, a lot young damaged black men roamed the country, lost, unemployed and traumatized by the Vietnam war. They were indeed spat on by the Federal government. They were expected to forget about the war, the way we left with our tails between our legs and all the waste in lives, especially among blacks and just be normal. I was young, but living in the projects, I saw so so many lost negro souls just roaming around lost....it was sad.

The aircraft carriers were deployed just over the horizon from the Philippines. Supplies could be easily ferried to them, and sailors were ferried off the ship for leaves or to be discharged from the Navy.

Now, we are talking about 9 months without any leave, no easy access to supplies, and extending active service until the deployment ends... And Hegseth wants to have a two year deployment?

That would be two years without sailors having contact with their families, or even a day off. That would mean some sailors would have their service extended by a year and a half.

It would break sailors, and we are not even talking about what it would do to the equipment.

The wives of these sailors who were interviewed, EVERY DAMN ONE OF EM SAID THAT VOTED FOR TRUMP, DOES NOT BLAME TRUMP, BUT BLAME PETE H. I'm a Naval vet. I respect our brave military, but I have to be honest, I am so disappointed in white people and this unending loyalty to a monster that cares nothing about them or those that serve. Trump is noted as saying, they should have much longer deployments??? He don't care about our military, but these sorry military white motherfuckers clearly care about Trump...so on that note, I say fuck em!!

When I got off active duty in 1985, the reenlistment package (4 years) for nuclear power was:

Automatic promotion to the next paygrade.
$70,000 half up front in cash.
$100 a month proficiency pay
Duty station of your choice for 24 months (18 if not a nuclear power billet)
Navy school of your choice

They were getting about 1 in 8 to take that.

Trump was asked about the USS Lincoln's plight, literally called them all liars and said their deployment should be longer...The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier has been deployed for more than 260 days, originally departing from San Diego on November 21, 2025. It has set a Navy record by spending over 200 consecutive days at sea without a port stop...and yet, the families of these men ALL STILL SUPPORT DONALD FUCKIN TRUMP....SO I SAY FUCK EM

I got discharged in 85' too. And yes, the money was banging. When I went into Data Processing, I was a few months short of qualifying for a bonus and I was devastated, it was a lot too, I think about 10 grand. The computer age was just coming into its enfancy.
 
There is nothing and I mean nothing more rewarding than serving a country that you value, that also values you. Trump and the GOP sadly will never understand the pride one has serving their country.1786820478085.png

The great deal they were offering me was that I would be in the Navy or Air Force, being paid as an officer, while getting my bachelors and masters degrees for free. It was restricted to certain jobs, but when I found out the Air Force would make me the same offer... I just was not going to stay in a submarine.

My family has a long Navy tradition, so it was an issue.
