A failed state is usually one that cannot maintain basic sovereignty, law and order, public services, border control, institutional legitimacy, or a monopoly on force. the U.S. has serious fiscal rot, but it is not a failed state. Israel has serious security and political problems, but it is not a failed state either.
And Russia is a strange example. Yes, Russia has lower public debt than the U.S. But calling that “fiscal discipline” while it is running a wartime economy, burning resources in Ukraine, dealing with sanctions, high interest rates, weak growth, capital constraints, and demographic problems seems like grading only one line item on the spreadsheet.
I agree the U.S. fiscal path is dangerous. I am not hand-waving that away, But people also forget that this country already had a monetary reckoning in 1971.
Under Bretton Woods, foreign governments held dollars with the understanding that those dollars were convertible into gold. When that promise became impossible to maintain, Nixon closed the gold window. That was not “fiscal discipline.” That was the United States effectively saying: the old deal no longer works, so we are changing the deal.
France saw it coming and had already been demanding gold instead of paper promises. That is how serious the problem was.
So yes, the dollar can break. Yes, the current debt path is reckless. Yes, empires abuse reserve-currency privilege until the bill comes due.
But the lesson of 1971 is not “America collapses next.” The lesson is that powerful states often survive by changing the rules when the existing rules become impossible.
Maybe next time the world refuses to accept it. Maybe not.
But I would be careful betting against the country that already turned an international default into the foundation of the modern fiat-dollar system.

Look, heres the bottom line for me, Israel is surrounded by people who want to eradicate them from the face of the earth. Not make them move but get rid of them entirely. When someone wants you dead whatever you do to defend yourself is completely fine with me.
I do not owe Israel loyalty. I am an American. My loyalty is to America.
The real question is whether supporting Israel serves American interests.
I think a lot of Israel criticism gets sloppy because it condemns Israel for doing what every serious nation does. Does Israel try to influence U.S. policy? Yes. So does every other country with a foreign policy. So do we.
The issue is not that Israel advocates for Israel. The issue is whether American leaders advocate for America.
As for tax dollars, I am fine debating aid to Israel. Israel is wealthy and capable enough that blank-check support should not be automatic.
But let’s keep the scale honest. America is not broke because of Israel. We spend roughly $19,500–$20,000 per person per year at the federal level, and most of that is domestic spending, entitlements, health programs, and interest on the debt.
Defense and foreign aid deserve scrutiny, but they are not the main reason we are drowning.
So no, I do not owe Israel loyalty.
But I also do not owe anyone the fantasy that Israel is uniquely evil for acting like a nation, or that American bankruptcy is caused by one foreign ally.
We're on the same page. I have no issue with them doing whatever they need to. But leave me the hell out of it.
So again why should I pay for it or fight it?
This is why I say fuck Israel. Not because I hate them but because they are a parasite to America. And because we allow it. And because I believe they have used skullduggery to make us compliant.
There was no way in hell they thought they could form a Jewish state right there after ww2 and live peacefully among opposing religious fanatics.
If they did they have learned otherwise by now and should make new plans. And IMO if they gave up the Jewish state my guess is that Islam would have better things to do than try to kill them.
