Venezuela does not work because it is a a petro single good economy. Can you even remember as far back as a 15 years ago when the dictator was paying utility bills for the poor in our country diue to Bush's failed state econ? Oil prices were high so they were flush. Take Russia, it is heavily dependent on natural resources rather than finished goods. It gets fucked with commodities and the US disposition towards it.
Take NK, they suck ass at everything produce nothing and are a cult that we sanction into the stone age so they suck ass all the time.
Take any Opec Emirate. Highly dependent on oil and low pop which is totally subsidized by in kind pays to the do nothings who remain fat dumb and happy

That’s not his point. 3D was being ideological and not thinking. I’m a died in the wool Capitalist but I’m also a realist and respect facts and the truth is that Capitalism does fail and there are times and situations where markets can’t provide goods or services cost affectively and socialist programs, SS as an example, does.
So McCawb’s point about nuance is valid. Venezuela failed as a Capitalist petro- State when oil prices tanked and because the vast majority of petroleum profits were stolen by the Capitalist political class.
So Venezuela turned to Socialism which also failed but it took the formers failure to happen to set up the failure of the later.
Both failures though are due to weak public institutions, a Kleptocracy of a political class and an undiversified economy dependent on petrochemical dollars.
In Venezuela neither the failures of both Capitalism or Socialism were the problem but symptoms of much larger underlying systemic problems.
So McCawb’s criticism of not knowing either the history or nuance of what has happened is spot on.

I don't know how times I have to say the same damn thing, I am anti-Salifist. It is a pernicious doctrine that inspires and guides extremism.
