BREAKING: Active shooter situation reported at a high school in Arlington, Texas

Yeah me too. I miss the old day when they settle with fists. Or just set a place and time for it.

You remember the movie Friday when Ice Cube is fighting Debo and Cube grabs the gun and his dad steps in and gives the lecture about a man uses his fists (not a gun) to settle his disputes? It was very appropriate.

Been a long time since I've seen that movie.

I watched "Walking Tall" with The Rock again a couple of weeks ago. Dad told him that taking a shotgun is not a good idea. The character decided later to use a 2x4 instead. More damage anyway. :rofl2:

Just modeling the times, and with guns so accessible, an easy solution

And after the weekend Meyer had maybe he will retreat back to college football soon (https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...wner-issues-statement-on-inexcusable-conduct/)

Guns have always been around. We hear old timers talk about having guns in the back of their pick ups when they went to school. It's not like people didn't have access to weapons previously. There was a switch, I don't know if it was driven by the internet or Columbine or what but the mindset of getting in a fight and having it end at that has gone away.

(Meyer is a hell of a coach but clearly seems to have some issues going on as well. It comes down to how much are you willing to tolerate in the pursuit of wins/championships)

Every kid should get a gun when he walks into a school. Thenn he places it in a bin on the way out. Then schools will be perfectly safe. Problem solved. Guns solve all problems.

No, the proper question is "Why did a student have a gun at the school in the first place?"

What's a school going to do though, literally search through every car in their parking lot every day? Because that's basically what would be required.

Police are working on an active shooter situation at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, Mansfield ISD Police confirmed to CNN.

They do not have any additional details available at this time, including any confirmation of injuries.
This is a developing story and will be updated.

Coincidentally, there has also been a high school shooting @ Arlington, Washington. Three people shot, but no word on their conditions.

That's why some schools have metal detectors.

There's been a fair amount written that claims 1) they don't work to prevent school shootings and 2) the mere presence of them makes students feel less safe and less inviting learning environment

(not saying that's right or wrong, just that it's out there)

So let's not even try, because it's just too hard to save kids' lives.

Funny though how we can manage to protect judges and other court ppl -- who have thousands of strangers walk into their buildings daily.

That does make sense. It's like damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I propose something like this:

Oh shoot! I cannot remember the name of the movie. It's where people walk through a yuge xray and they can see their skeletons and metals and all.

I'm not sure why the eye roll. That's what it would take to make sure no one has weapons on the school grounds (as I understand it this kid had this gun in his car in the parking lot). We could have guards search every student as they enter the building. But there has been big push back to having armed guards or police on campus as well as metal detectors.

Correct, guns have always been around, not like today though, as many guns out there as people. We have a history of high gun violence, but accessibility has never been as easy as it is today, one can even get a weapon on the Internet (https://www.armslist.com/), just accept the “terms of use” and you are on your way, Craigslist for guns

Simple reality, there are just too many guns in America and way too easy access to too many guns
