Hiroshima, 6 August 1945

Interesting comment. In all the years it's been my displeasure to share forums with you, I have never once seen you claim that you served in our military. Doesn't that make YOU a "deadbeat" as well? Or do you consider yourself a patriot because you're okay with sending other ppl to die for your freedom to act like an ass?

I have no problem fighting for what I believe in. I believe you are another one of the Deadbeats that turned your back on the Syrian women and children being gassed by Assad. When Obama wanted to make a surgical strike on Assad for violating the International Chemical Weapons ban, you and your Republican friends were all against it. 'Doormat'. When I use that word, I think of you.

Yet the American ppl were told that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were necessary targets.

My dad was a scientist; he worked on one of the many small parts of the Manhattan Project. He believed that narrative at the time, too. But as the decades rolled on and more information came out, he changed his mind. He felt tremendous guilt over his role as a civilian scientist. No doubt many others did as well.
I’m so sorry, I can’t imagine bearing that burden. He did what he believed was right at the time.

On the one hand, the argument can be made that it was morally reprehensible, but it was the least bad of a range of bad options.

On the flipside, it could be argued it crossed a line which should never be crossed.

far less died because the bomb was used I just regret it was not developed early and we had more of them . I think about a dozen for japan and Germany would of been good and a couple dozen in russia

No doubt, Jack, no doubt. Sorry, but unless you served yourself, you have no standing to denigrate others for their pacifist beliefs. The only battles you've ever engaged in were the ones with the mods over your multiple 12b bannings. :rofl2:

Yes, he did. When I was only 8 or 9, he purchased John Hersey's Hiroshima and discussed it with me after I read it. His way, I think, of atonement.

what does that mean?
Truman had a duty to end the war. it was a WORLD WAR, the alternative was invading Japan
is that the skin you mean?

It means that people who had no families or friends who got tortured or died in wars find it a lot easier to justify attacks like Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

:) It's a Politics Forum, we're all here to voice our opinions. You support Deadbeats and being a Doormat. I support defending America and Western Values. (like NOT gassing women and children with Internationally Banned Chemical Weapons)
